Special Microfluidic Products->
High Density Microfluidic Connections
In
some applications, there can be a requirement for a large number of closely
spaced microfluidic channels. In such circumstances, it can be difficult
to make the necessary fluid connections to external peripheral equipment
without adding significant complexity to the functional microfluidic chip.
The
Fluence Interconnection
System is used to address this issue, where connectors of practical
size are held on an ‘adaptor plate’, thus divorcing fluid
connection from the functionality of the microfluidic chip.
The
illustration shows a microfluidic chip where the main inlet (on the left)
feeds an enlarged on-chip reservoir.
Two sets of 4 side inlets, spaced 2mm apart, ‘bleed in’ additional
reagent, before the final product leaves the main outlet (on the right).
The adaptor plate greatly simplifies the practicality of fluid connection,
whilst also enabling rapid interchange of the functional chip without
the need for de-coupling fluid connectors.
The
smallest available pitch provided by the Fluence
Interconnection System is around 2mm, whereas a Bonded Interconnection
approach facilitates a smallest pitch of around 1mm.
