One of the main benefits of the Fluence Interconnection System is the means with which a set of basic functional chips can be assembled and used during design and process optimisation (the Fluence Tool Kit provides this functionality through a versatile ‘plug and play’ approach). Once a process matures however, often there is a requirement to increase throughput, whilst retaining the benefits of working at the micron scale. The Fluence Interconnection System is designed to support this requirement.
As a first step, the functionality of independent microfluidic chips can be integrated onto a single microfluidic chip. By either in-plane tiling or 3D stacking, multiple microfluidic chips can then be linked together by using manifold chips. The manifold can act as the inlet and/or outlet for all fluid feeds in and out of each of the microfluidic chips.
